Dr. Carl Crandell, a beloved faculty member in our Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, passed away on December 6, 2005. Dr. Crandell joined the CSD faculty in 1994 and was a professor of audiology. He received his master’s degree in audiology from Florida State University and his doctorate from Vanderbilt University in 1989. A prolific writer, Dr. Crandell published extensively in the Audiology field on special topics focused on Sound Field Amplification and Hearing Management. An avid presenter nationally and internationally, Dr. Crandell will be remembered for his commanding voice, his warm spirit and his desire to enthusiastically teach his students. We miss him dearly. |

Karen Klenberg, MA-CCC, a research speech-language pathologist at the VA RR&D Brain Rehabilitation and Research Center (BRRC), passed away May 2005. Karen received her Masters degree in Communication Science and Disorders from the University of Florida in 2004. Karen was a valuable colleague at the BRRC for two years and focused her clinical efforts on treatment of aphasia in individuals who suffered from stroke. She was well respected by her fellow researchers and adored by her patients. She will fondly be remembered by her warm smile, bright spirit and caring nature. |

Suzanne Adams, passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2004. Suzanne Adams graduated with honors in 2002 from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders with a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to Valdosta State University where she was posthumously awarded a master’s degree with highest honors in Speech Pathology. Suzanne was a shining star, a bright and amazing young woman, whose life was taken too soon. A scholarship program has been developed in her honor by her parents at the Gulf Coast Community College Foundation because of their close association with college. The scholarship is for students interested in the field of Speech Pathology. |
