Howard B. Rothman, Ph.D.


Howard Rothman received a B.A. in Music from City College, New York, an M.A. in Speech Pathology/Audiology from New York University and a Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Stanford University.

Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and a member of the University of Florida's Institute for the Advanced Study of the Communication Processes.

Dr. Rothman's research activities have involved studies of the acoustic aspects of alaryngeal speech, dynamic aspects of deaf speech, voice identification, underwater communication and the singing voice.

Dr. Rothman was the recipient of the University of Florida's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Teacher of the Year Award in 1980, 1982 and 1990. Dr. Rothman is the Undergraduate Coordinator for the Department of Communication Processes and Disorders and was a CLAS academic and preview advisor for more than 10 years.

In addition to his academic and research interests, Dr. Rothman teaches a classical music appreciation class in his home and for twelve years hosted a classical music radio program on FM radio in Gainesville. Since 1989, Dr. Rothman has been presenting pre-concert musically illustrated talks for season ticket holders of the Gainesville Chamber Orchestra, and the Classical Series of the Gainesville Performing Arts Center. Dr. Rothman is the President Emeritus of the Gainesville Hillel Foundation's Board of Directors.
