Overview of Undergraduate Program

The department offers an undergraduate major in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).  Students can choose an emphasis in speech-language pathology/audiology or phonetic sciences.  This is a limited access major. Majors should work out a planned program with their department advisor. For a list of undergraduate advisors, click here.  Both the advisor and the student will sign the CSD course requirement schedule for graduation. This signed program becomes the contract for graduation. Transfer students must satisfactorily complete no fewer than 20 credits in communication sciences and disorders to complete a major in the department.  For more information about undergraduate coursework in CSD click here or contact the undergraduate coordinator, Dr. Howard Rothman.

Honors: To be eligible for honors the student must have an average junior/senior level GPA of 3.5. For high or highest honors the student must also have completed a minimum of three credits in SPA 4931 (Honors in Communication Science & Disorders) and a thesis judged to be of high or highest quality.  To access the Departmental guidelines for the Senior Honors Thesis, click here.

Overview of Graduate Programs

Graduate programs in the department lead to Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  Major areas of emphasis include audiology, speech-language pathology, and speech science.  The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, in conjunction with the Department of Communicative Disorders in the College of Health and Health Professions, also offers the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree.  Graduate students in the Au.D. program take coursework in both departments in theoretical and applied audiologic sciences and research.  Students, in conjunction with their supervisory committees, develop graduate programs to meet the specific needs and interests.  Graduate specializations and programs in speech-language pathology and audiology are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation/American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

PLEASE NOTE:  Application deadlines for Fall admission to the M.A. and Au.D. programs is February 1, and for the Ph.D. is March 1.
