SYMPTOMS
Are you wondering whether your child has
1) an attention deficit related to language learning?
2) language learning disability,
3) auditory processing deficit,

These are all terms that can be determined only with a formal evaluation. To decide whether you need an evaluation, look at your childs behavior.
Warning signs:
May be slow to learn the connection between letters and speech sounds.
May have difficulty reading single words.
May have trouble decoding or sounding out words
May be able to sound out words, but has difficulty with comprehending meaning
May have difficulty spelling phonetically.
Other family member(s) may have experienced similar problems learning to read and spell.
May rely on guessing and contextual cues while reading.
May have difficulty learning new vocabulary.
May rely heavily on memorizing.
May have developmental articulation errors.
May have language-learning difficulty.
May refuse to comply with academic demands at an early age.
May demonstrate inconsistent performance.
May spend long hours on homework, but earn poor grades.
